1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you register, we collect:

Full name
Email address
Phone number (optional)
Language preference (Hindi or English)
Password (stored as a secure hash — we never store plain-text passwords)

1.2 Usage Data

As you use the platform, we collect:

Dictation attempts — your submitted transcriptions, scores, and evaluation results
Session and device information — browser type, device type (mobile/desktop), IP address
Page views and feature interactions (for analytics and improving the product)

1.3 Payment Information

Payments are processed by Razorpay. We do not store your card number, CVV, or net banking credentials. We only store the Razorpay payment ID, order ID, and subscription status for record-keeping.

1.4 Audio Data

Dictation audio files are pre-recorded and served to all users. We do not record or store any audio from your microphone.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, operate, and improve the Shorthand Sathi service
To evaluate your transcription submissions using AI (Google Gemini API)
To manage your subscription and process payments
To send service-related communications (e.g. email verification, subscription reminders)
To analyse usage patterns and improve our dictation content
To detect and prevent fraud or abuse

3. AI Evaluation & Your Submitted Text

When you submit a transcription, your text is sent to Google's Gemini API along with the original dictation text for evaluation purposes. This transmission is encrypted. Google's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy. We use Gemini API in a manner that does not allow Google to use your data for model training (API usage policy).

Your submitted transcription text is stored in our database so you can review your past attempts.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

Supabase — our database and authentication provider (servers in Singapore/US)
Google (Gemini API) — for AI evaluation of transcriptions
Razorpay — for payment processing
Vercel — for website hosting

All third-party providers are bound by their own privacy policies and applicable data protection laws.

5. Data Retention

Account data is retained as long as your account is active
Attempt history and scores are retained indefinitely so you can review your progress
Analytics events are retained for 12 months
On account deletion, personal data is removed within 30 days

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies only — for maintaining your login session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but this may prevent login from working correctly.

8. Security

We take security seriously. Measures include:

All data transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
Passwords hashed using bcrypt (never stored in plain text)
Row-level security on our database (users can only access their own data)
Admin access protected with separate authentication and IP controls
Payment processing handled entirely by Razorpay (PCI-DSS compliant)

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is intended for users 16 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a prominent notice on our website. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
